Is FEAR ruling your career?

The answer is likely yes. Fear can take many forms in our lives, it sneaks up when we least want it and also when we expect it the most. It looms over us on a daily basis, through our decision making, interacts with others and daily performance. Do you agree? Well, let’s see. Have you ever experienced any of these?

  • Anxiety

  • Hesitation, doubt or second guessing something

  • Trouble making a decision

  • Biting your tongue or filtering your comments

  • Playing the political games

  • Stress

  • Judgment towards others or yourself for actions taken

  • Depression

  • Inability to connect with someone or work cooperatively together

  • Performance management concerns

  • Quitting a project, task or job

I could go on and on and on. But I expect you’re getting the idea here. Any thought, feeling or action that is holding you back from being your truest self, your most skilled, beautiful, capable self, well that’s fear. As the picture shows, fear takes you down paths that are not true to you, where you fully and deeply can trust yourself. Fear throws you off your game. It makes you “less than”. Imagine for a moment that you’re a superstar athlete. One day, a news reporter makes a bold statement that you’ve passed your prime, you’re done, washed up. This likely would fuel a fire in you, a passion, a drive and you may retaliate by working harder to prove that reporter wrong. Rightfully so. No one should tell you what your limitations are. Now, if that is true, that ‘no one should tell you what your limitations are’, then why are you letting your fear, instigated and fueled by yourself, tell you what your limitations are?
